Weary of the COVID-19 epidemic and feeling the pinch of significant financial losses during the months of the coronavirus crisis, the world is in a hurry to open borders, restart air traffic and resume tourist travel without even waiting for the pandemic to fizzle out. Simultaneously, many countries are doubling down on developing and testing vaccines and drugs against this dangerous scourge. Many heads of state hope that once this pandemic is over, everything will return to normal. Will it really? Will we have to live in a changed reality?
The rapid increase in the proportion of young people in Pacific Island countries is forcing researchers to assess the risks that could bring about demographic shifts in the composition of the Pacific population. This brings to mind the 1988-1998 civil war on Bougainville Island, or the 1998-2003 conflict on the Solomon Islands that socially destitute local youth actively participated in. During the years leading up to the war, 70 percent of Bougainville's population was under the age of 26, and 80 percent between the ages of 12 and 25 had only primary education. Experts confirm that one reason why the conflict on the Solomon Islands has been flaring for so long is the high proportion of unemployed young people there.

There is a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it is not about who has got the most bullets. It is about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think…it is all about the information. (From the movie Sneakers, 1992) Cyber security is today a matter which concerns organisations, institutions and companies. It represents a war fought with a simple computer and can target anyone, anywhere, anytime. A war that does not involve the use of bombs, missiles and tanks; a silent war, which leaves neither marks nor fallen warriors, but which is capable of producing the same devastating results as a bombing.
US President Trump has signed into law a sanctions bill to punish China for the situation in Hong Kong, and an executive order that strips trade privileges from China’s special administrative region in what can be regarded as the start of a "sanctions war" around Hong Kong with unpredictable consequences. The decree lays out a raft of tough measures, and to put it into effect Trump used the same tactic as the one he applied when preparing his earlier decree on the construction of the wall along the Mexican border: the introduction of a state of emergency.

The senator commented on the exchange of a page from the Miroslav Gospel for paintings by Nicholas Roerich. Valery Ryazansky, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Social Policy, of the Federation Council (the upper house of the Russian parliament) and the head of the Group for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the People's Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, commented on the exchange of cultural treasures between Russia and Serbia.
It looks like Turkey’s European choice, proclaimed by [the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal] Ataturk, is finally becoming a thing of the past. Moreover, this trend is apparently being supported by Europe. This process can be speeded up by Ankara's recent moves, which the European Union considers inappropriate: ignoring protests from its regional neighbors, Turkey continues seismic surveys inside Cyprus' exclusive economic zone, “blackmails” Europe, gambling on the refugee problem, and, according to many EU member states, demonstrates its unwillingness to contribute to a peaceful resolution of the Libyan conflict.
Water is an essential element for the existence and persistence of life on Earth. It is fundamental for human lives, ecosystems, and industry; hence it is necessary for the provision (clearly connected to the quality and quantity of the available resource) of services, such as hydroelectricity generation and goods like drinking and irrigation water. However, water resources are scarce and bulky; indeed, it is estimated that the Earth contains nearly 1400 million km3 of water of which only 35 million km3 of freshwater.
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has made it clear that «the future of START-3 Treaty is foregone». During an online session of the Primakov Readings the minister pointed out that «it looks like the United States has already taken a decision not to prolong the treaty». What is meant is, in the first place, the US persistent attempts to turn two-party talks into three-party ones, with the participation of China. How dangerous is Washington’s reluctance to remain committed to strategic nuclear reduction?

There is no doubt that after the NPC (National People’s Congress) ended, the special legislation in regard to Hong Kong and the program for creating jobs have been approved, the internal political, financial and international relations between USA, EU and RF have not been showing a sign for a stabilization or improvement. Unfortunately, they are even worsening as far as the media hysteria is concerned – 66% of Americans perceive Chinese as an enemy (week ending May 30th). Therefore, it has to be assumed that the war between USA and PRC would intensify at all main fronts: Trade, Covid-19, Hongkong, Taiwan and South China Sea.
The article analyzes new trends in the development of the transatlantic partnership, laying bare the contradictions and problems that have recently been complicating the allied ties between the US and the EU. Donald Trump's presidency has led to a noticeable cooling of relations between the United States and the European Union. Most European analysts view the Trump administration’s approach to relations with the European Union as destructive, since it proceeds from the assumption that European integration is directed against the United States and that the "disunited states of Europe" thus pursue their own strategic interests.
