The decision by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to hold a national referendum on amendments to the Constitution has evoked a number of logical questions. Why does he take such a decision now? "I have one year and three months to serve as Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, so I would like to hold a referendum within this period", - Abe said. In his opinion, since the Japanese Constitution, which was compiled 70 years ago, does not meet present-day requirements, it has to be changed.

One of the recent trends in the United States of late is the spread, along with the coronavirus infection, of the “political virus”, which manifested itself in groundless and mendacious attacks on China. A statement to this effect was made by China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi as he addressed a news conference in the aftermath of a session of the National People’s Congress (NPC).
The coronavirus epidemic in China is showing clear signs of a decline and amid an easing of the government-enacted strict quarantine measures and travel restrictions announced late last month, the country’s economy is starting to look up. According to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in parts of the country outside Hubei, the province where the virus was first identified, large industrial enterprises are now working at 95 percent and more of their capacity, the figure among medium and small enterprises has reached 60 percent, and about 80 percent of company employees have already returned to their workplaces.

As Russia discusses amendments to the Constitution, an issue of particular concern has been the amendment that prohibits the alienation of Russian territories. The amendment will likely be put to vote on April 22. It is not surprising that it has evoked interest abroad, especially in Japan, where they still expect to regain control of the so-called "northern territories". Unlike a great number of categorical alarmist comments in the Japanese press on this issue, Sankei Shimbun writes: “The amendment includes the wording “except for cases of demarcation or re-demarcation of borders with neighboring states”. Thus, negotiations on the Japanese "northern territories" can be considered not in conflict with the new Constitution."
Things look like it is high time we learned the first lessons from the ongoing fight against the coronavirus epidemic in China and beyond. And not from the medical point of view alone, but also in terms of the socio-economic, political and international aspects of this unprecedented epidemic that has caused massive upheavals and market panic that threatens to become a “new reality.”

The Munich Security Conference, which traditionally brings together heads of state and government, foreign and defense ministers in February, is usually expected to bring some kind of intrigue. This time round, the role was claimed by the conference report, titled “Westlessness,” whose main message was the loss by Western countries of their global leadership and, as a consequence, the growth of nationalist sentiment in Western countries and the loss of their monopoly on resolving international conflicts.
The newly published US Counter-Intelligence Strategy for 2020-2022 puts Russia and China at the top of the list of countries that pose a threat to the USA. “Russia and China are operating throughout the world, using all power instruments at their disposal against the United States, resorting to a wide variety of modern intelligence methods", - the document says.
The outbreak of the Chinese coronavirus infection has generated such an avalanche of comments and forecasts that they are difficult to classify. The Chinese coronavirus may have a more devastating impact on the global economy than the financial crisis of 2008-2010, experts from Moody's rating agency say. According to a number of Russian experts, the main problem with coronavirus for Chinese and world manufacturers is the uncertainty of the situation.
