Donald Trump has described Sir Keir Starmer as “a loser” in conversations with friends, ‘The Telegraph’ can disclose.
The US president was talking at a private dinner within the past fortnight when he dismissed Sir Keir with his most derogatory term yet.
A source told The Telegraph: “Trump has started calling Starmer a loser. He said it at a dinner with friends. He just thinks Starmer has no future any more.”
The language, in contrast with Mr Trump’s previous description of the Prime Minister as a “winner”, is the latest sign that relations between the White House and Downing Street may have irrevocably soured.
The US president attacked Sir Keir over his lack of support for the Iran war, saying he was “not Winston Churchill” and “ruins relationships”.
At a press conference in the White House, he also criticised the Prime Minister over his “horrible” immigration and energy policies, and urged the UK to remove “sharia courts” and “open up the North Sea” to oil and gas.
It came after he told The Telegraph earlier this week that he was “very disappointed” in Sir Keir for initially blocking the use of Diego Garcia, the military base in the Chagos Islands, for military strikes.
Britain had refused the US permission to conduct strikes from RAF bases, citing international law. However, Sir Keir relented on Sunday night and said he would allow the US to fly missions from the bases for “specific and limited defensive purposes”.
Mr Trump is known to describe political enemies, including top Democrats, as “losers”, in contrast to himself and other Republican favourites as “winners”.
In an exclusive interview with The Telegraph published on Monday, he said that Sir Keir’s decision to block him from using Diego Garcia was unlike anything that had “happened between our countries before”.
Mr Trump told The Telegraph that Sir Keir “took far too long” to change his mind, adding: “It sounds like he was worried about the legality.”
“We were very disappointed in Keir,” he said, and described the Chagos deal as “a very woke thing”.
The US president went further on Tuesday, comparing Sir Keir unfavourably with Winston Churchill, the wartime prime minister.
He said: “That island that you write about, the lease... for whatever reason, he made a lease of the island. Somebody came and took it away from him and it’s taken three or four days for us to work out where we can land.
“It would have been much more convenient landing there as opposed to flying many extra hours. So we are very surprised.
“This is not Winston Churchill that we’re dealing with.”
High level relationships! – “China makes all the windmills… they sell them to the SUCKERS over in Europe” — Trump

'China makes all the windmills… they sell them to the SUCKERS over in Europe — Trump said. – I told them for 3 years, this is not gonna work out well'
European countries are making the mistake of recklessly buying thousands of wind turbines from China, which itself is in no hurry to use alternative energy sources due to their inefficiency. This was announced on March 4 by US President Donald Trump during a round table at the White House.
"Have you seen a lot of wind farms in China lately? They produce these wind turbines themselves and sell them to suckers in Europe, where they are being bought by the thousands," he said.
