Israeli fighter jets attacked a number of military positions in central Syria from northwestern Lebanon, air defense forces shot down several missiles, the Syrian Defense Ministry said in a statement to the state-run news agency SANA, the Sputnik agency quotes.
"At approximately 20:23 [17:23 GMT] on September 8, 2024, the Israeli enemy launched an air attack from northwestern Lebanon, striking a number of military targets in the central region. Our air defense systems intercepted the aggressor's missiles, some of them fell. As a result of the aggression, three people were killed and fifteen were injured, and material damage was caused," the statement said.
Very heavy bombardment against Syria.
Earlier, the agency reported repelling an attack on targets in central Syria. The director of the hospital in the city of Masyaf, Faisal Haider, said the death toll from the attack had risen to four, with more wounded continuing to arrive.
Israel has not commented on the attack and typically does not comment on its attacks on Syria, which have been intermittent for years. In April, Israeli fighters bombed the Iranian embassy in Damascus in an assassination that killed 16 people, including two civilians.

More than a dozen people have been killed and many others wounded in an Israeli airstrike on Syria, the state-run Sana news agency has reported as RT informs.
Israeli warplanes attacked several targets near the city of Masyaf in the country’s western-central Hama Governorate late on Sunday, a military source told the agency.
The strikes damaged the main road between Masyaf and the town of Wadi al-Uyun and caused a major blaze in another area, Sana cited the source as saying.
The reported death toll has risen steadily in the hours since the airstrike. On Monday morning, the director of Masyaf National Hospital, Dr. Faisal Haidar, told the agency that the number of dead had reached 14, with 43 others wounded, including six in a critical condition.

The main target appeared to be a military research centre in Masyaf associated with Syria’s chemical and ballistic missiles programme but explosions were also heard in Damascus, Homs and Tartus. Syrian state media had put the death toll at 16 with 40 wounded, ‘The Guardian’ reports.
The attack on Sunday night struck targets associated with pro-Iranian militias as well as the “scientific research facility” near Hama, reportedly run by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor, described the Sunday night strike as “one of the most violent Israeli attacks” in Syria in years and said it was carried out with 14 missiles. It said among the people killed were “five civilians, four soldiers and intelligence personnel and 13 Syrians working with pro-Iran groups”.
Israel has also struck Syrian army air defences and some Syrian forces.
Condemning the attack, Nasser Kanani, spokesperson for the Iranian foreign ministry, told a media briefing: “We strongly condemn this criminal attack by the Zionist regime on Syrian soil.”
Syria has sought to stay out of the Israel-Hamas conflict that has raised fears of a broader regional war across the Middle East.
It will not last forever…
