Russian Minister of Defence General of the Army Sergei Shoigu has opened the 9th “ARMY 2023” International Military-Technical Forum (IMTF) and addressed participants of event with welcoming speech in the Patriot Military Park.

‘Delegations of defence departments and industry representatives from many countries are present here today at the Patriot Exhibition Centre. In a difficult international environment, you have found an opportunity to come, thus showing your desire to continue contacts, strengthen and develop mutually beneficial cooperation. This is the best answer to the lovers of sanctions and destructive forces that create tension, wreak havoc and disorder,' said Sergei Shoigu.

The Russian Defence Minister noted that some of the developments presented at this year's Forum are increasingly being used by the Russian Armed Forces, 'I would like to emphasise that many of them are already being implemented in the interests of troops, carrying out the tasks within the special military operation. In real conditions, our armament shows its reliability and effectiveness. At the same time, the widely publicised Western-manufactured hardware has in fact turned out to be far from flawless. You can make sure of this by looking at the trophy weapons exposition.'

The head of the military department also said that despite the Western sanctions, the Russian industry has successfully coped with the set tasks, including in the sphere of the state defence order, 'The Russian defence-industrial complex not only quickly adapted to work in the conditions of severe sanctions pressure, but also boosted its capacities in certain areas.'

When inaugurating the Forum, the Russian Defence Minister stressed that in addition to military products, the event will present projects in the field of artificial intelligence, radio-electronic and information technologies, as well as unmanned aviation.

At the end of the speech, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu expressed hope for strengthening military-technical cooperation between the countries and establishing a dialogue with new partners, and wished all participants of the Forum productive work.

As part of the scientific and business programme of the ARMY 2023 Forum, a thematic round table is to be held, the participants of which will consider topical issues of using rescue and underwater equipment in containers for search and rescue operations of the Russian Navy.

The main direction of the round table is to be a detailed consideration of the issues of the current state, use and prospects of improvement of domestic complexes of rescue and underwater equipment in containers.

Based on the results of the work, the participants of the event are to develop proposals for the development of promising, improved use of existing domestic complexes and their modernisation.

Experts are going to develop prospective recommendations for the development of ship control systems using domestic software advances during the thematic roundtable that is to be held as part of the ARMY 2023 International Military-Technical Forum.

The meeting will also cover current challenges like modernising domestic production methods and enhancing ship automation systems’ reliability through ‘intellectualisation’.

The work is expected to result in development of proposals for the technical report on ‘intellectualiation’ of modern ship automation systems, installed on operating ships within the framework of modernisation and development of the Navy, taking into account import substitution of its elements.
