Rom. 6:18-23; Mt. 8:5-13
How great is the faith of the centurion! The Lord Himself marveled at it. In the center of this faith — his confession that Jesus is God of the universe, almighty Lord and Master of all. That’s why he asked: “Speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed” [Mt. 8:8], — “I believe that everything is under Thy dominion, everything obeys Thy will...”
That’s the kind of faith which the Lord demanded from everyone; the same faith is demanded from us today. Who has such faith, has no need in anything; he receives everything he asks for. This is what the Lord Himself has promised to the believers [Jn. 16:23].
Oh, if only we could find just a trace of such faith in ourselves! But faith is a gift, and we have to beseech the Lord for it. Let us then beseech Him at least with the sense of urgency, beseech constantly and diligently, working at the same time towards developing the faith in our souls through contemplation and primarily through our obedience to God’s commandments.
