Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš called for Europe to be prevented from repeating the fate of the Roman Empire. He believes European countries must defend their competitiveness, otherwise a sense of decline could become commonplace. The prime minister emphasized that no one wants such a future.

Babiš specifically addressed the elections to be held next year. He believes their results could radically change Europe, and this is of great importance for the Czech Republic.

The prime minister's statement also touched on the topic of missile defense.

Babiš has previously outlined his position on the military budget debate. Despite the increased targets among NATO countries, Prague, he said, does not intend to increase defense spending above 2% of GDP. Babiš opposed further increases in this threshold for the Czech Republic.

US Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker commented on the refusal. He stated that Washington is interested in strong European allies capable of providing for their own security, rather than remaining dependent on American aid.
