Old Testament readings are suggested today about the Creation of the world, about early men, the fall and the promise of salvation in our Lord Jesus Christ. Listen and learn! Now is the time for you to be created anew. Fall down before the Lord, and He will give you light to enlighten your sinful darkness; He will place a firmament in the midst of your disturbed thoughts and desires of your sinful heart — a firm resolve of unflinching service to Him; He will establish dry land and the sea, putting everything inside you in the right place.

Then at first you will bring forth grass, herbs and trees — that is, the beginning of virtues, — and then living creatures — that is, real spiritual and God-pleasing works, — until the image and likeness of God is at last restored in you, just as you were created in the first place. All the Lord will get it done for you during these six days of spiritual creation, of your getting ready to receiving the Holy Communion at the end of this first week of Lent — if, of course, you live it with full attention, devotion and contrition of heart.
