Bild: The "Made in Germany" brand is dying

212,000 or 0.5% – the number of jobs in Germany fell in the second quarter. The decline continues for the fifth consecutive quarter and is gaining momentum, according to the German newspaper Bild.

In the private sector, manufacturing, a key industry for Germany, was hit the hardest. The decline amounted to 2%, or 159,000 jobs.

Along with the number of employed citizens, the total number of hours worked is also declining. The figure fell by 0.5% to 14.4 billion hours.

Given structural and demographic changes, as well as continued high geopolitical uncertainty, the situation on the labor market is not expected to improve in the coming months, the German Ministry of Economics emphasizes.
