Boomerang effect, or who lurks behind Ukrainian terrorism

Burisma Holdings and Hunter Biden are suspects

On Tuesday, April 9, news agencies broke the news about Russian law enforcers having accused the Ukrainian oil and gas company Burisma Holdings of financing terrorist activities in Russia, in particular the terrorist attack on Crocus City Hall, which claimed the lives of 145 Russian citizens.

According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, they have opened a criminal case on the financing of terrorism, based on the results of an inspection prompted by a recent appeal by State Duma deputies.

“The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia carried out an investigation into an appeal by a group of deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and other persons about the financing of terrorist activities by senior officials of the United States and NATO countries. Based on its results, a criminal case was launched on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Art. 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (financing of terrorism),” the Investigation Department said in an press release.

As of now, the investigative authorities have established that in the course of the past few years, funds received through commercial organizations, in particular the oil and gas company Burisma Holdings, operating in Ukraine, have been used to finance terrorist acts in the Russian Federation and abroad aimed at eliminating prominent political and public figures and causing economic damage.

According to a statement by an Investigative Committee representative, “The investigation, in cooperation with other intelligence services and financial intelligence, is checking the sources of income and further movement of funds in the amount of several million US dollars, the involvement of specific individuals from among government officials, public and commercial organizations in Western countries. In addition, through investigative and operational means, connections between the direct perpetrators of terrorist acts and foreign curators, organizers and sponsors are being established.”

Well, the most interesting thing that our law enforcement officials did not say out loud is that among those sitting on the board of directors of the ill-famed Burisma Holdings, which became the butt of high-profile corruption scandals in Ukraine, was the son of current US President Joe Biden, Hunter Biden.

Once, when Joe Biden served as Vice President under President Barack Obama, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office tried to investigate the company’s illegal activities and its connections with high-ranking US politicians. However, following a personal request from Biden Sr., Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko fired the Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka, who was subsequently forced to emigrate to Russia to avoid political persecution in his own country.

Thus, it looks very much like there is a direct connection between the White House and the financing of Ukrainian terrorist activities on the territory of the Russian Federation.

However, even without this truly sensational scoop, there was enough reason to believe that the Ukrainian terrorist regime has become a real problem, not only for Russia, but also for the Western countries that sponsor it, including those in Europe.

Hot on the heels of the recent terrorist attack on Crocus City Hall in Moscow, the Austrian newspaper Heute wrote that traces of terrorist activities by the Ukrainian special services lead directly to Europe.

“It is possible that the Moscow criminals had connections with like-minded people who were on the territory of Ukraine. Intelligence services suggest that a large number of suspects entered Europe via Ukraine. This is also consistent with the results of the police investigation into terrorist suspects in Vienna who were arrested on the morning of December 23, 2023 at the refugee shelter on Thaliastrasse,” the newspaper wrote.

What really happened in the Austrian capital? According to the local police department, an unnamed 28-year-old citizen of Tajikistan, along with his wife and another accomplice, were plotting an attack on the famous St. Stephen's Cathedral, one of the symbols of Vienna. The terrorists had prepared explosives and Kalashnikov assault rifles. Fortunately, they were detained on German territory before being able to carry out their plans.

“German intelligence services managed to intercept suspicious messages in their social media chat, which contained concrete evidence of plans for terrorist attacks on major European cities,” the newspaper reported.

The most interesting part of this whole story is that these three people arrived in the EU from Ukraine in February 2022 under the guise of refugees.

As Austria’s ex-Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl rightly noted, Ukraine has turned into a “black hole,” becoming a transit point for weapons and recruiting terrorists from Central Asia and the Middle East.

Even before the official statement of the Investigative Committee of Russia came out, Kneissl said she believed that the trail of the terrorist attack in Moscow leads to Kyiv, and that radical Islamists from Syria and Iraq always go to where they can find a suitable “market,” and Ukraine today fits this definition just fine. As a result, there is an interesting chain that is being built between terrorist cells of radical Islamists, Ukrainian special services, Western sponsors and customers who provide overall management of terrorist activities directed against Russian citizens. By the way, I would not be surprised if Ukrainians and Islamists might have been pushed into each other’s embrace by the very same Western intelligence services, which, as is known, are directly involved in the creation of the most radical groups across the Middle East.

However, as is often the case with a “controlled chaos” that Russia’s opponents keep trying to create, it is getting out of control. As a result, the tools and methods invented specifically for sabotage and terrorist confrontation with the Russian Federation start to backfire on their very creators.

Even though the terrorist attack in Vienna was prevented, the genie of terrorism that the West let out of the bottle will most likely hit them hard, and innocent people will suffer, as they always do. As to the Biden family, who have given enough reason to be suspected of sponsoring terrorism, they will surely try to “remain in the shadows.”
