Rom. 3:19-26; Mt. 7:1-8

“Judge not, that ye be not judged' [Mt. 7:1]. What a vicious disease — gossip and condemnation of others! Everyone knows that it is a sin, and yet there is hardly anything more common than condemnation of others.

Someone would say: “Don’t count this as condemnation, О Lord!’" — while doing just that. Another would justify himself by saying that a rational person has to have an opinion on surrounding events, trying to sound logical in his gossip, — but everyone can hear a proud, spiteful condemnation in his words. However, the Lord is very harsh and decisive in His sentence for this sin: those who condemn others get no acquittal for themselves.

What is the way out? How can we get out of trouble? A certain remedy against condemnation is as follows: think of yourself as condemned. Then you will have no time, nor desire to condemn others: the only thing on your mind and on your lips will be "Lord, have mercy! Lord, forgive my transgressions'."
