Democratic platform-2024 refers to ‘Second Biden term’ 19 times

Several contradictory publications have appeared in the US press following the Democratic Party convention.

The Democratic Party platform, released Sunday on the eve of the convention that is to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris for president, refers over a dozen times to President Joe Biden’s “second term,” writes Breitbart.

Biden dropped out of the race in late July. But as Breitbart News reported earlier Monday, the platform still refers to him as the candidate.

“President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats are running to finish the job,” it says.

The document refers to a second term for Biden on no fewer than 19 occasions:

  1. “The [Small Business Administration]’s innovative Community Navigators program meanwhile helped 350,000 small businesses tap into resources that have helped them grow. In a second Biden term, we’ll make that Navigator program permanent, and include new lenders, new markets, and fairer taxes.”
  2. “In President Biden’s second term, he will continue selecting judges who will protect fundamental rights and who represent the diversity of the American experience.”
  3. “We will repeal the Hyde Amendment. And in his second term, President Biden will continue to support access to FDA-approved medication abortion, appoint leaders at the FDA who respect science, and appoint judges who uphold fundamental freedoms.”
  4. “The Administration set a goal that 15 percent of federal contracts go to small disadvantaged businesses (SDBs)and will continue expanding these opportunities for SDBs in a second term.”
  5. “In President Biden’s second term, he will push Congress to pass [immigration] legislation that is consistent with our values as a nation.”
  6. “In President Biden’s second term, he will push Congress to provide the resources and authorities that we need to secure the border.”
  7. “In his second term, President Biden will work with Congress to deploy more cutting-edge inspection machines to help detect fentanyl at our ports of entry.”
  8. “Congress must pass legislation to provide a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, farmworkers, careworkers, and other long-term undocumented individuals who contribute to this country, by paying taxes and contributing to their local economies, and in his second term, President Biden will continue pressing them to do so.”
  9. “During President Biden’s second term, Democrats will continue to advocate for the safe and secure development of AI.”
  10. “With a second term in office, President Biden will continue to work to prevent cancer, detect it early, deliver innovation, care for families facing cancer, and, ultimately, end cancer as we know it.”
  11. “With a second term in office and a majority in Congress, we will fulfill our promise to end veteran homelessness and support military students with disabilities.”
  12. “President Biden will never turn his back on our allies. In his second term, he will continue to stand with Ukraine to stop Putin’s atrocities and constrain Russia’s threat to allied nations and America’s vital interests.”
  13. “In his second term, President Biden will continue to promote a free, open, connected, prosperous, secure, and resilient Indo-Pacific.”
  14. “In his second term, President Biden will remain focused on actions at home and abroad to outcompete China.”
  15. “In his second term, President Biden will continue the work to ensure a secure border, protect U.S. jobs, and maintain stability in neighboring countries in order to keep Americans safe and prosperous.”
  16. “In his second term, President Biden will continue to build 21st century U.S.-African partnerships.”
  17. “In his second term, President Biden will continue to invest in America and our allies and partners to grow the middle class globally.”
  18. “The third Summit [for Democracy] occurred this year under South Korea’s leadership, and President Biden is proud to have catalyzed this new global forum to support and coordinate democracies around the world, and which will continue in his second term.”
  19. “President Biden will never turn our back on our alliances or fail to stand up for human rights and democracy around the world and at home. In his second term, he will support the critical work of our diplomats and continue to fight to bring Americans detained abroad home.”

Though Democrats had weeks to prepare the platform ahead of the “coronation” of Kamala Harris as the party nominee, they did not update the document.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claims she wanted 'open process' to replace Biden, but Harris smartly 'took advantage' of opportunity. Pelosi insisted in a new interview that she wanted an "open process" to replace President Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket but Vice President Kamala Harris "took advantage" of the opportunity, Fox News informs.

"Many of us who were concerned about the election wanted to have an open process. It was an open process, anyone could have gotten in," Pelosi said during an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

Pelosi also said she relayed concerns she got from other House Democrats to the White House about their campaigns being hurt by his struggles. Harris has seemingly reinvigorated the party, but the way she snapped up the nomination despite having no actual primary votes cast in her name has stoked criticism against a party that often claims the mantle of being pro-democracy.

Pelosi also told the Journal that the Democratic National Convention (DNC) was different from what the Democrats initially expected.

"The convention is, of course, a different one than was envisioned one month ago, and it’s one that is going to be enthusiastically attended," Pelosi said, adding that the credit "goes to the president."

Pelosi has been repeatedly asked to explain what went into the president's decision to step aside from the 2024 race, and if she had anything to do with it. Pelosi told CNN's Jake Tapper that she did what she had to do, despite also denying that she had orchestrated the pressure campaign.

Biden is reportedly unhappy with how he was treated by powerful Democrats who helped push him out of the race, including Pelosi.

The Tragedy of Kamala Harris – thanks to party machinations, Harris will be the weakest president to enter the White House, writes ‘The American Conservative’.

Now that Speaker Emerita Pelosi is effectively bragging that Biden was pushed out in a party coup, it’s worth reflecting on our cousins’ experiences with regicide and how this new phenomenon will affect our politics.

Pelosi, the most powerful speaker of the House in American history, has effectively reduced the presidency to a “creature of the legislature” and crowned an heir with a remarkably similar resume to her own. In this, Pelosi has de facto altered the United States Constitution.

Kamala Harris may yet wear the crown, but can she change the course of history?

Kamala Harris’s task is to triple down on the failing neoliberal policies that have led the West to this moment of collective crisis. Harris has been tasked with placing the forces of global realignment back into Pandora’s Box. As president, she will face the prospect of major power conflict on every inhabited continent except Australia, the emergence of BRICS and other threats to Western financial hegemony, and a domestic population that, in part, views her as a usurper.

At a moment of crisis that requires the full power and will of the American executive, the nation faces the prospect of being led by a creature of Nancy Pelosi’s legislature. Harris, who will in every way be held hostage by the whims of donors, agency heads, and congressional leadership, will be the constitutionally weakest American president since Buchanan (1857 — 1861). Like Buchanan, she will be condemned by history to oversee a confluence of crises over which she will exercise little control but nonetheless receive much condemnation for.

Thus, the tragedy of Kamala Harris, ‘The American Conservative’ concludes.

Kamala Harris now leads in national polls by one percentage point.

She has also increased her lead in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin to two percentage points, and has improved her standing in Michigan enough to be tied with Donald Trump.

Her significant improvement can also be seen in the Sun Belt, where she has closed in on Donald Trump, who now leads in North Carolina and Arizona by only one percentage point.
