The Danish authorities are trying to forget investigations held into the explosion of the Nord Stream pipelines, Russia’s ambassador to Denmark Vladimir Barbin told RIA Novosti.
"In Denmark, they are trying not to remember the outcome of the investigations into the explosions of the Nord Stream gas pipelines with the national one closed, and Copenhagen flatly rejecting the idea of holding of an international investigation under the auspices of the UN," he noted.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told RIA Novosti that Moscow could make pre-trial claims to other countries for the terrorist attack on the Nord Streams, in addition to Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland.
"The Russian Federation has officially made pre-trial claims to Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland on the basis of the International Convention for the Suppression of Terrorist Bombings of 1997 and the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism of 1999," Zkharova said, adding that that other states that may be involved in the explosion are next in line.
According to the diplomat, as an act of international terrorism, the sabotage on the Nord Stream pipelines falls under treaties that oblige countries to prevent such acts, investigate them, and cooperate with other states in these investigations. She added that these obligations are not being fulfilled.
“Despite the colossal damage caused to the European economy and ecology by the explosion of the gas pipelines, the West shows no interest in conducting an effective investigation of this terrorist attack," Zakharova noted.
She emphasized that the Russian side had made repeated requests to European states for legal assistance in the investigation, only to see them rejected under far-fetched pretexts or without any explanation at all. Zakharova added that if the issue is not resolved now, Russia will bring the case before the UN International Court of Justice.
"Russia is determined to identify and bring to strict accountability all the perpetrators, organizers of and accomplices in the terrorist attack. International justice is not the domain of the West; it should and will work in the interests of the entire world, including and above all in the fight against international terrorism," Zakharova concluded.
