European hypocrisy: Which European countries are buying gas from Russia?

Europe has increased purchases of Russian gas by almost 10%, despite promises to abandon it, The Times writes. As Trump accuses the EU of hypocrisy, a report finds that its states are importing more Russian liquefied natural gas than this time last year.

In January-September, EU countries imported 12.18 million tons of Russian LNG worth €7.88 billion. This is 9.5% more than in the same period last year. About three quarters of deliveries were to French ports.

France, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands continue to purchase Russian LNG, while Hungary, Slovakia and Greece receive pipeline gas.

At the same time, Russia’s share in the total gas imports of the European Union decreased from the pre-war 45% to 12%.

Trump has already accused the Europeans of hypocrisy, recalling their purchases of Russian energy resources in response to criticism of the American deal with Moscow on diesel fuel.

The EU intends to completely abandon Russian gas by September 2027, but analysts doubt meeting the deadlines due to high prices and low fuel reserves.
