It's a European disgrace that these politicians don't know where Iran is on the world map!

Bulgaria, Turkey, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia... These countries have been confused with Iran by certain MEPs, interviewed by Quotidien at the beginning of March. Questioned in the corridors of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, at the beginning of March, they had to place the Middle Eastern country on a silent geographical map.

These failures, broadcast on March 2 on TMC in the show "Quotidien", have gone viral since only this weekend on social networks, while the war in the Middle East enters his third week.

"We do what we can"

Benjamin Haddad, the minister responsible for Europe, tries to divert attention by pointing to the Strait of Hormuz. PS MEP Emma Rafowicz shows Bulgaria, while her Renaissance counterpart Fabienne Keller spontaneously points to Turkey. As for the ecologist Marie Toussaint, she chose Afghanistan after hesitating for a long time. David Cormand, also an environmentalist MEP, believes he has the answer by pointing to Saudi Arabia.

"We don’t have infused knowledge, we do what we can. There are a lot of subjects on which we must learn, and therefore we are not encyclopedias on legs, we do what we can to be aware of things", explained David Cormand to the journalist from "Quotidien", while he was invited to comment on the rate of failures which was far from trivial among elected officials.

Criticisms from Internet users

On social media, these inaccuracies sparked strong reactions: "It's impossible to be so uneducated", " We do what we can to be aware of things. And these people decide for us. When do we fire them? "I will never make fun of Americans again. And we can't even blame it on the drop in the level of national education, some are over 50 years old. They're just c*ns actually", "Despairing", we read on X.

"These mistakes would be funny if the European Parliament didn't have to comment on the ongoing war... I understand better why some people are reluctant to condemn it! ", wrote Manon Aubry on the social network.
