""Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees'" [Mt. 16:6], — said the Lord. Sadducees are an example of carelessness; Pharisees, apparently, are among the concerned ones. The former just don’t do anything; the latter look like busy, but to no avail.

We have seen this attitude among so-called humanists. Much is being said about the benefit of the people; however, people get no benefit from them, because they talk a lot but do nothing. Their humanism is fake; they pretend to be humanists, but in truth are die-hard egoists. Words are cheap — so they are talking profusely, but as soon as something has to be really done — they withdraw.

Hypocrisy is nearly universal nowadays; public figures are showing off their presumed compassion and care for public benefit and especially for education, and they get utterly happy when there is a chance to re-iterate their commitment to a progressive cause. That’s why there is so much fuss and noise about any charitable project — with so little actual success.

Don't expect this sort of people to sacrifice anything for public good: they couldn't care less about it, as long as they are doing well themselves. Or they might donate a token amount, just to get the issue behind them and forget about it. The Lord has condemned both kinds of behavior, commanding us to have sincere love for one another, poor in showing and rich in doing.
