Foreign media gave their first reaction to Putin's night press conference, at which it was proposed to hold repeat talks in Istanbul on Thursday.

 “A great day” – this is how Donald Trump commented on Vladimir Putin's proposal to hold direct talks with Ukraine in Istanbul. “This may be a great day for Russia and Ukraine! It will be a completely new and much better world,” the US President wrote on social media.

Macron noted that this is a first step, but it is not enough.

Reactions of foreign media:

— Turkish AHaber called Turkey a center for reconciliation, publishing a corresponding headline on the main page;

— The Chinese Xinhua news agency highlighted Putin's statement in which he expressed hope that constructive relations between Russia and Europe will one day be restored;

CNN noted that Ukraine and Russia have not held direct talks since the first weeks of the NWO. Russia is ready for direct talks, since the leaders of the US and Europe insist on a ceasefire;

France 24 said that despite public pressure from Trump and repeated warnings from European leaders, Putin had made no significant concessions to end the conflict;

Al Jazeera reported that Putin did not directly respond to the call from European leaders meeting in Kyiv, but criticized Europe's "ultimatums" and "anti-Russian rhetoric" before making a counter-proposal to resume Russia-Ukraine talks;

GB News said the Russian leader set a day for talks with Ukraine just hours after Britain "summoned" the Russian president, and said he had "set the stage" for possible talks with Ukraine;

Reuters: Putin has rejected attempts by some European powers to issue "ultimatums". Putin, whose forces have made advances over the past year, has stood firm on his terms for a ceasefire.

Sun: Putin opens door to talks.

Confidential: Putin's address is "an unusual morning message."

Le Figaro: Putin believes talks with Ukraine should focus on "roots of conflict."

NBC: Putin said Ukraine had walked away from talks and violated ceasefires in the past. He used language that expressed his desire for serious talks with long-term consequences, including lasting peace.
