Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping.
On July 15, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was received by President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping in Beijing, while taking part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Foreign Ministers Council Meeting.
Sergey Lavrov conveyed greetings and best wishes to the Chinese leader from President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. The officials discussed multiple issues of highest- and high-level bilateral political contacts, including preparations for the Russian President’s visit to the People’s Republic of China where he will take part in the upcoming SCO summit and festivities marking the 80th anniversary of Victory over militarist Japan.
The Russian side also touched upon certain key issues of the international and regional agenda.
The President of the PRC welcomed the Russian leader’s upcoming visit and underscored that they share a long-standing friendship. Xi Jinping praised the state of bilateral relations and reaffirmed the commitment of China to continue expanding comprehensive partnership and strategic collaboration with the Russian Federation.
