Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s official visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
On April 30, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was received in Astana by President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Both sides commended the steady advancement of Russian-Kazakh relations as a comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance. They highlighted the strength of their large-scale trade, economic, and investment cooperation, their close and effective coordination within Eurasian integration frameworks, as well as the convergence and close alignment of their positions on key regional and international issues.
The meeting participants reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying joint efforts across the full spectrum of bilateral relations, including further strengthening interstate dialogue at the high and the highest levels.
Sergey Lavrov also held talks with Kazakhstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ermek Kosherbayev.
The foreign ministers discussed a broad range of issues related to expanding Russian-Kazakh cooperation across the political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian, and educational spheres, among others. They also reviewed progress in implementing key agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries.
Particular attention was given to cooperation within major Eurasian integration frameworks – the EAEU, CSTO, CIS, and SCO – as well as to the recently established International Russian Language Organisation, created at the initiative of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and other multilateral platforms, foremost among them the UN. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening a trusting political dialogue and to closely coordinating their positions on key regional and international issues.
During the talks, Sergey Lavrov provided the Kazakh side with a detailed overview of Russia’s approaches to resolving the Ukraine crisis.
The Action Plan for Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2027-2028 was signed.
The talks were held in a traditionally warm and friendly atmosphere.
