Wang Yi came to Moscow to take part, in conjunction with Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu, in the 20th round of Russian-Chinese consultations on strategic security.
The foreign minister had an in-depth exchange of opinions on the schedule of top-level and high-level contacts, including in light of China’s APEC chairmanship, as well as on the most pressing bilateral and international issues, with an accent on the comprehensive implementation of the agreements between the leaders of the two countries.
Sergey Lavrov and Wang Yi reviewed the results of inter-ministerial cooperation over the past year and outlined further steps to improve foreign policy coordination between Moscow and Beijing in the international arena, including at the UN and the Security Council, the SCO, BRICS, the Group of Twenty, and other formats. Considering the geopolitical situation in Eurasia, they emphasised the relevance of joint efforts to implement President Putin’s initiative to form new security architecture on the continent. The Russian side reaffirmed its support for the initiative on global governance put forward by President of the PRC Xi Jinping.
Special emphasis was placed on prospects for resolving the Ukraine crisis based on eliminating the root causes of the conflict and proper consideration of the fundamental interests of the Russian Federation, the situation in the Asia-Pacific region, and other matters of mutual interest.
Following the talks, the sides noted overlapping or close positions on all key bilateral and international issues, which fact serves as a foundation for stable positive dynamics of Russia-China strategic partnership regardless of the complex geopolitical environment.
