Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with Foreign Minister of Oman Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.

On May 7, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a telephone conversation with Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.

During the conversation, the ministers discussed current aspects of the Middle Eastern agenda, highlighting the situation in the Persian Gulf. Both sides emphasised the importance of preventing the resumption of violence and damage to civilian infrastructure as the result of strikes on Iran and neighbouring Arab countries. They pointed out the need to prevent the deliberate escalation of tensions in the UN Security Council, and to promote an immediate return of the situation to the track of a political and diplomatic settlement based on international law and respect for the legitimate interests of all regional countries.

Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed Russia’s readiness to provide assistance towards achieving these goals, in particular, on the basis of the principles and practical actions enshrined in Russia’s Collective Security Concept for the Persian Gulf Region.

The ministers also talked about the further development of multifaceted Russian-Omani cooperation.
