On August 26, at the initiative of the Egyptian side, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt Badr Abdelatty.
The heads of the foreign ministries of Russia and Egypt discussed the current situation in the Middle East. They addressed issues related to the unprecedented escalation of the military and political situation in the Persian Gulf region as a result of US-Israeli aggression against Iran. They underscored the need to intensify collective political and diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and establishing reliable foundations for regional security.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared position on the need to resolve the Palestinian issue in accordance with UN resolutions.
Sergey Lavrov informed his Egyptian counterpart of the latest developments in the context of the Ukraine crisis, including the sharply deteriorating situation in the Black Sea region arising from the criminal actions of the Kiev regime aimed at destroying civilian vessels and energy infrastructure.
The ministers held substantive discussions on current issues of bilateral cooperation, emphasising the importance of continued close coordination with a view to strengthening trade and economic ties between Russia and Egypt.
They also exchanged views on ways to further develop Russia’s partnership with the African Union and the League of Arab States.
