Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Mohammed Al Thani:

On February 28, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Mohammed Al Thani.

The parties discussed the situation around Iran. The ministers unanimously called for ceasing any hostilities that involved the risk of destabilising the entire region. They expressed their common shared opinion on the need for an urgent return to the political and diplomatic process intended to settle all the problems between the United States, Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran on the basis of the UN Charter and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. At the same time, it is necessary that all the sides fully take into account the legitimate interests of the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf.

Sergey Lavrov has reaffirmed the well-known Russian initiative on building a collective security architecture of in the Gulf area.
