Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Mohammed Al Thani.

On August 4, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

During their conversation, the two officials discussed key avenues for further stepping up relations in all their aspects between Russia and Qatar in keeping with the tradition of maintaining friendly ties. They reaffirmed their commitment to regular trust-based political dialogue, while also expanding trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

The agenda of the conversation also included an exchange of views on the developments in the Middle East with a focus on the escalation of tensions in the Persian Gulf. Both sides emphasised the importance of achieving an immediate cessation of hostilities and resuming the negotiating process based on the June 17 Islamabad Memorandum.
