Former CIA analyst Larry Johnson challenges Western policies towards Ukraine

On March 20th, the Greek Parliament hosted a conference on ways to achieve peace in Ukraine. The most discussed was a report by an American expert, former CIA analyst Larry C. Johnson (photo). It looks particularly noteworthy in light of the continued US slowness to provide further military assistance to Ukraine. Johnson presented a somewhat unusual point of view.

He began by stating that “Europe and the United States are to blame for this war in Ukraine. NATO signed an agreement with Ukraine in 1997. Why? Russia was not a military power with the intention of invading Europe.

“At the time, Russia was in economic chaos. Let’s be clear about this. They wanted to break Russia economically. There was no co-operation, there was no attempt to build peace with Russia.”

In his opinion, the revolution in Ukraine in 2004-2005 was not a grassroots event; it was instigated by the CIA and MI6.

NATO has been conducting military exercises with Ukraine since 2006. From 2006 to 2021, NATO has funded and conducted joint military exercises with Ukraine.

In 2007, President Putin warned against Ukraine joining NATO.

Johnston defined it as an economic issue. He said Ukraine’s entry into NATO means huge business for the US military industry, and Europe finds itself caught up in it.

He compared Europe’s dependence on the United States to the relationship between a drug addict and his pusher or a prostitute and her pimp.

While Europe is unanimous in calling for Georgia’s territorial integrity to be restored, Johnson chided the West for “lying,” claiming, for example, that “Russia invaded Georgia while Russian troops were under attack there.

“If the Mexican government did something similar, the U.S. would respond militarily”.

Larry C. Johnson: Maidan was a CIA and MI6 plot

According to this former CIA analyst, the 2014 “Maidan” that brought about the change of government was again a CIA and MI6 operation. “It was part of a broader plan: to strengthen the Ukrainian army and then threaten and possibly destroy Russia.

“We see that between 2014 and 2021, Ukraine became the third largest military force in NATO, ahead of the US and Turkey. Everything was done to equip and train Ukraine as a Western army. All of this was directed against Russia”.

Then the speaker suggested some historic background: Russia has not invaded Europe in the modern era. If we take the period since 1812, Russia was invaded by France, Turkey and then Germany in the two world wars. The Russian people have a historical reluctance of the West.

How to achieve peace? This was the question.

Larry C. Johnson: “The West must stop lying. The Minsk agreements were signed but never implemented by Ukraine. And we have Angela Merkel’s revelation that it was no intention to implement it, but it was done only to strengthen the Ukrainian army.”

He also suggested that Europe and the USA stop arming Ukraine.

He then lashed out at President Zelensky, who criticised the Russian election. “But he himself cancelled the elections in Ukraine, jailed his political opponents and shut down the opposition press.

“He imprisoned and destroyed Christian Orthodox churches to turn them into something that does not resemble Christianity but retains the pagan beliefs of the Ukrainian neo-Nazi movement.”

He also stated that “the US and England did everything to shut down any Russian peace plea. There were negotiations in March 2022 and actual cease fire agreement had been reached and then due to the pressure from the US and Britain the Ukrainians walked away”.

He then warned that the Europeans must realise their military weakness, while the US is in a much better position. European generals buy expensive military equipment, but Europe hasn’t fought a real war in eighty years.

Johnson: “And Greece should know better than most what political interference is like with the CIA funding opposition groups, pouring money into the system and perverting the political system.

“We are not leaving in a world where Russia is subverting Europe. If you compare the money poured in by the US and Russia to increase political influence.

“This is being done by the US to ensure the existence of NATO for the sake of the continued growth of the US military industrial complex.

“And we are now at a very dangerous point in this war. And it is better not to pour fire into the petrol because it might explode,” Larry C. Johnson concludes.
