“If it were up to me, I would expel the EU ambassador for what he said” – Tbilisi mayor

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said the EU Ambassador to Georgia should be expelled for his statements about political repressions in Georgia. Kaladze, who also leads the country’s ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party, was reacting to recent comments by Pavel Gerchinsky, who had told the local news agency Interpressnews that the only way to bring Georgia back to the path of integration into the EU would be "to stop repressions, release illegally detained persons, repeal repressive legislation and ensure open dialogue."

"I don't know when he (Gerchinsky - TASS) made this statement, but if he really did, if you ask me, he should be expelled from the country," Kaladze told journalists.

He added that Gerchinsky "uses his status and is engaged in sabotage," and acts on the orders given him.

"This is my attitude, my vision of the situation, and if it were up to me, of course, I would kick him out. One must respect Georgian statehood, and neither the EU ambassador, nor the ambassador of any country, has any right to interfere in the internal political processes of the country, to promote confrontation in society, its polarization," Kaladze said.
