Kremlin’s reaction to Trump’s statement

US President Donald Trump’s latest statements about Russia are very serious and some of them are addressed personally to Vladimir Putin, the Russian president’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists.

He noted that the Kremlin needs time to analyze what was said in Washington, and that Putin will comment on them if and when he deems it necessary. For now, Peskov added, Putin would not like to get ahead of things.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, "Decisions which are being made in Washington are perceived by the Ukrainian side not as a signal for peace, but as a signal to continue the war." Peskov noted that Russia is waiting for Kyiv's proposals to hold a third round of peace talks (the first two were held in Istanbul on May 16 and June 2, during which the parties exchanged memoranda on the settlement and agreed to exchange prisoners of war) and is ready to continue the dialogue. "We have not yet received proposals from the Ukrainian side. This is the de facto situation for now. That's all I can say about this at this point," he said.

When asked by journalists to comment on Trump's interview with the BBC, where Trump said he was disappointed with Putin, Peskov replied, "Please pay attention to my last phrase. That's all I have to say at this topic for now."

Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told TASS that Moscow rejects any attempts to dictate conditions to it, especially in the form of an ultimatum. "Of course, we make it perfectly clear that any attempts to make demands, especially ultimatums, are unacceptable to us," Ryabkov noted, commenting on President Donald Trump statement.
