Russian Foreign Ministry statement regarding the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ strike on the Lugansk State Pedagogical University college in Starobelsk.
In the early hours of May 22, the Nazi Kiev regime carried out a bloody terrorist attack on the academic building and dormitory of the Lugansk State Pedagogical University college in Starobelsk, in the LPR. They used four fixed-wing UAVs.
At the time of this barbaric attack, 86 students, aged between 14 and 18, were inside the five-storey dormitory. The building collapsed down to the second floor. Forty people are currently known to have been injured. Tragically, four have lost their lives. Rescue operations are under way at the scene. Nearby administrative buildings, residential blocks, and public facilities have also been damaged.
Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation into this terrorist attack. All those responsible will be identified and will face inevitable and severe punishment. There will be no mercy.
This attack cannot have been accidental. It was a targeted strike against civilians – straight out of the German Nazi playbook. No one in that building was involved in hostilities, nor could they have been. There are no military facilities anywhere near the college.
The Kiev regime, suffering defeat on the battlefield, is now opening a new chapter in this armed conflict – by unleashing open, inhumane terror against defenceless children.
These strikes use long-range weapons supplied to the Kiev regime by NATO countries, including drones, and are being carried out with the technical assistance of foreign specialists from well-known NATO member states. We have reliable information that Western capitals are feeding intelligence to the Ukrainian armed forces and helping with targeting.
By committing atrocities against children in Starobelsk, the Kiev regime and its handlers are taking full responsibility for the escalation of hostilities and for undermining political and diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.
All of this is happening against the backdrop of Kiev’s hypocritical wailing about the fate of children affected by the war. Now the entire world has seen just how cynical the Zelensky regime really is, targeting children for terror.
We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
We call on international organisations, national governments, and the global community to give an honest assessment of the criminal actions of the Zelensky regime and to resolutely condemn the brutal terrorist attack in Starobelsk. Silence would be tantamount to complicity in the bloody acts of the Kiev terrorists and indifference to the fate of the innocent children who have been killed and injured.
