68% of French people support holding early presidential elections

Almost 70% of the French are in favor of holding early presidential elections. This was reported on October 15 by Le Journal du Dimanche magazine with reference to the results of a survey conducted by the CSA sociological organization.

"68% of French people support holding early presidential elections," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, 31% of respondents called it a "bad idea," and 1% refrained from answering.

It is noted that 61% of citizens support the resignation of French President Emmanuel Macron. Women are most in favor of holding early elections (70%), while among men this figure is 65%.

In addition, young people aged 18 to 24 are overwhelmingly in favor of early elections (89%), while this figure is 51% among citizens over the age of 65.

Former French Defense Minister Herve Morin said on October 11 that the political crisis in France could be resolved only if Macron resigned, but not by reappointing the prime minister or dissolving the government. According to him, France is currently unable to carry out normal reforms and develop, and is going through very difficult times in general.

Prior to that, on October 10, it became known about the re-election of French Prime Minister Sebastian Lecorny, who resigned of his own accord. He began his first term in this position with the lowest rating, while explaining his decision to leave by saying that he lacked the conditions for government work.

On the same day, Philippe de Velle, a political scientist, lawyer, member of the Paris Bar Association, and head of the doctoral program at Paris Descartes University, told Izvestia that the reappointment of Lecorny to his former position was a hypocritical move by the president of the country to prevent the dissolution of parliament.
