On May 27, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines Maria Theresa Lazaro.

In the context of the upcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Russia and the Philippines on June 2, the two officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening constructive dialogue and practical cooperation between the two countries.

In view of Manila’s ASEAN chairmanship in 2026, the parties also discussed prospects for expanding Russia’s strategic partnership with ASEAN, and plans for holding the anniversary summit in Kazan on June 17 and 18 to mark 35 years of Russia-ASEAN relations.
