Beginning of Russia-Myanmar talks

President of Russia Vladimir Putin:

Mr President, friends, good afternoon. We are delighted to see you in Moscow again.

Before we begin our discussion, I would like to convey my sincere condolences regarding the tens of thousands of local residents affected by intense monsoon floods in your country.

Relations between Russia and Myanmar were established as early as 1948. Since then, they have been steadily advancing, becoming especially trusting in recent years

We are grateful for your assistance in promoting Russia’s relations with ASEAN. We are actively cooperating on the international stage.

Certainly, we also need to focus on the economic front. There is good groundwork in place and a number of promising projects. Our cooperation in the security sphere is also developing.

You have a long and busy programme prepared for your visit to Russia, and I am sure you will have an opportunity to discuss all these issues.

Mr President, we are very pleased to see you. Welcome!

President of Myanmar Min Aung Hlaing (retranslated):

Thank you, Mr President,

First of all, I would like to express my gratitude for the warm welcome extended to our delegation. I have visited Russia many times, but this is my first official visit as President of Myanmar.

We have been actively developing relations between our two countries, not only on the international stage but also in other areas. As you mentioned, our country has experienced severe flooding. The floods have not yet subsided, and I would also like to thank you for your condolences.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Russia for its support. Last year, devastating earthquakes struck our country, resulting in numerous casualties. Russia promptly dispatched rescue teams, and many of our people were rescued. I still remember this. Therefore, I would like to once again express my gratitude to Russia for its support.

Today, relations between our two countries are developing rapidly. During this meeting, we will be able to discuss all possible agreements aimed at expanding our bilateral relations.

Thanks to Russia’s support and your personal support, we have achieved many positive results in our relations on the international stage. I would like to note, however, that much work remains to be done to achieve our goals and ensure the long-term development of our countries. Russia has always supported our country and continues to do so, and I would like to express my gratitude for that. Looking back at the history of our relations, our two countries have always enjoyed good relations, and I am confident that they will remain strong in the future.

Mr President, I would also like to emphasise that Myanmar is a reliable partner of Russia in Southeast Asia. Myanmar always stands ready.

Vladimir Putin: Thank you.
