In the event of a conflict over Greenland, Russia’s response will be proportionate with the gravity of emerging threats, Russian ambassador to Denmark Vladimir Barbin told RIA Novosti.
“Amid the sharp aggravation of the international situation, the consequences of which have also had a negative impact on the state of affairs in the Arctic, a conflict over Greenland will certainly have a detrimental effect on regional security. This will require Russia to take military-technical measures that are adequate to the emerging threats,” Barbin noted.
Earlier, President Vladimir Putin described as “serious plans” US President Donald Trump’s idea of annexing Greenland.
“Suffice it to say about the plans of the United States to annex Greenland, as everyone is aware. But you know, it can surprise someone only at first glance. It is a profound mistake to treat it as some preposterous talk by the new US administration. Nothing of the sort,” Putin said, speaking at the International Arctic Forum.
