Russian Foreign Ministry: “Antonio Guterres and his subordinates routinely pick up and amplify falsehoods that are designed to discredit Russia and are fabricated by the Kiev regime and Western capitals”

Foreign Ministry statement on UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ remarks:

On July 5, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres made another Ukraine crisis-related provocative statement. He strongly condemned what he called “the latest series of large-scale drone and missile attacks by the Russian Federation, reportedly the largest in over three years of war,” which allegedly disrupted the power supply to the Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), and expressed concern over “dangerous escalation and the growing number of civilian casualties.”

The UN Secretary-General’s remarks are yet another vivid demonstration of his political bias and shortsightedness manifested in his near-unconditional support for the criminal Kiev regime and the NATO alliance that stands behind it. Such assessments have been largely influenced by the ambiguous language that distorts the actual state of affairs which was used in the reports on the situation at the ZNPP by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, which fail to mention attacks by Ukrainian armed formations on the plant.

It would be ridiculous to assume that Russia has any reason to jeopardise the safe operation of its own Zaporozhskaya NPP. The responsibility for ensuring the safe operations of the ZNPP lies with Moscow, and the Russian side is doing everything that is necessary to have the ZNPP operate safely. Also, these matters do not fall within the purview of the UN Secretary-General.

The actions of the Kiev regime gunmen, which led to the disruption of the ZNPP’s power supply, truly deserve strong condemnation. The perpetrators will be held accountable.

In carrying out its special military operation, Russia takes exhaustive measures to strictly comply with international humanitarian law, striking only Ukrainian military targets with high-precision weapons. Meanwhile, acting as an avowed terrorist, the neo-Nazi Kiev regime systematically and deliberately targets Russian civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Antonio Guterres and his subordinates routinely pick up and amplify falsehoods that are designed to discredit Russia and are fabricated by the Kiev regime and Western capitals. They consistently ignore Kiev’s egregious violations of international humanitarian law or, at best, limit themselves to calls for restraint on both sides. These double standards constitute a blatant violation of Article 100 of the UN Charter, which puts the Secretariat under an obligation to adhere to principles of impartiality and equidistance.

Russia insists that UN officials abandon their biased stance, cease acting as mouthpieces for Western propaganda and distributors of disinformation and fake news, and instead adopt a neutral and responsible stance befitting their status, and operate solely based on credible sources of information.
