Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s answer to a question from the ‘Moscow. Kremlin. Putin’ television programme.

Question: The new Prime Minister of Great Britain…

Sergey Lavrov: Just Britain.

Question: Exactly, Britain. After hearing the statement by the Russian Embassy, he said that they would stand with Ukraine and that this would not change. Meanwhile, the British media, citing their Ministry of Defence, published some unhinged reports claiming that these drone attacks were intended to demonstrate that they were no longer concerned about Russia’s possible response.

Sergey Lavrov: I feel sorry for Britain if it intends to stand with Ukraine to the very end.

President Vladimir Putin has warned them that we have the right to act anywhere across the world’s oceans if someone infringes on our interests or threatens our property. By the same token, we have the right to regard the proudly announced direct involvement of British missile forces in strikes against the Russian Federation as participation in the war, with all the ensuing consequences.

Sometimes I get the impression that they are all acting on their own. Why don’t they take a decision within NATO, as they did with Yugoslavia, Iraq and, to some extent, Libya? They all want to create the appearance of acting in their national capacity, and that, therefore, this should not be regarded as NATO’s actions.

Look, there is Article 5 in the Washington Treaty, isn’t there? Could it be that, being bound by this article, they have come to believe that instead of collective defence, they also have the right to carry out collective attacks? This is a very uncomfortable question for them.

We will take into consideration everything that the openly Russia-hating elites in Britain, Brussels, Paris and Berlin and the overwhelming majority of NATO and EU countries are doing.

They know what they are doing and are trying to come up with excuses for acting this way in their public statements. They will never pull this off.
