Acts 17:1-15; Jn. 11:47-57
“What should we do? for this Man doeth many miracles" [Jn. 11:47] — that was the only guilt that the Jewish intellectuals found in the Savior. And in our own day the German intellectuals in the field of Gospel Criticism find the supernatural as the only improper thing in the Holy Scripture: everything else is just fine, only the supernatural is no good.
And in their sentences both kinds of intellectuals come close together. The Jews decided: “It is expedient for us, that one Man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not" [Jn. 11:50] — and the Germans likewise: let us get rid of the supernatural in order to keep everything else in the Gospel. And what’s the result? Those have doomed the Jewish nation, and these have lost basically every Christian truth, ending up with nearly nothing.
The Lord is the cornerstone of the edifice of our salvation; so. the faith in the supernatural is the cornerstone of the entire edifice of truth inspired by God. The Savior Himself, in His own Person, is the apex of the supernatural; He is the inexhaustible source of the supernatural Grace in His holy Church. This is the heart of our Christian faith.
