During the meeting, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief heard a report by Chief of the General Staff of Russia’s Armed Forces – First Deputy Minister of Defence Valery Gerasimov on the situation along the line of contact and announced that Russia will stop all combat action from 6 pm of April 19 until 12 am, April 21.
Russia has been targeted more than 1,300 times by Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) in the less than 24 hours since the unilateral declaration of an Easter truce by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian MoD has announced on April 20.
On April 19th, 2025 he declared to pause in all hostilities since 6:00 PM Moscow time the same day that lasted until midnight between April 20-21. So, the overall truce banning all kinds of military activity on the basis of reciprocity has been proposed for totally 30 hours.
Unfortunately, illegitimate ex-president of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky refused to respond to such humanitarian offer in practical terms. Earlier he torpedoed all dozens of truces proposed on the eve of many international public holidays.
Russian MoD noted that UAF has attacked overnight a number of civilian areas and military positions located in Donetsk People’s Republic, and three Russian bordering regions (oblasts) like Bryansk, Kursk, and Belgorod Regions in western Russia. “The Ukrainian units fired 444 times from cannons and mortars at the positions of our troops, [and] carried out 900 strikes with quadcopter drones,” the MoD said. Kiev’s troops used 48 plane-type UAVs against the Russian military, including one in Crimea, the statement read.
Such massive attacks resulted in “civilian casualties and injuries, as well as damage to civilian facilities,” according to the MoD announcement.
Rodion Miroshnik, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Ambassador-at-large overseeing investigations of war crimes conducted by Ukraine, predicted that by the end of the Easter truce more reports of its violations by Ukraine would be coming in. The breaches of the Easter truce suggest that Zelensky is unable to stick to any pause in the fighting, ambassador outlined. “I do not remember a single ceasefire that would be successful and long-term, so I do not yet see any serious grounds to say that Ukraine is capable of doing this [abide by a truce],” he stressed.
At the same time Kiev has violated another truce proposed by President Donald Trump who on March 18 during a phone call with Vladimir Putin asked both Moscow and Kiev to introduce a 30-day reciprocal pause on targeting their energy facilities.
While Russia has never hit any Ukrainian energy infrastructure, UAF has attacked Russian energy facilities 111 times between March 18-April 17 in fifteen Russian Regions, Russian Energy Ministry said. On April 18-19, after the partial ‘energy ceasefire’ expired, UAF attacked 20 more such Russian assets – ten facilities per each day.
So, Kiev totally violated ‘energy assets attack ban’ 131 times.
Food for thought:
It is very strange that many biassed NATO and the EU countries demanding exclusively from Russia to implement various ceasefires are persistently turning a blind eye to Ukrainian unwillingness to respect and observe any of them.
It explains why the current ultra-nationalist regime entrenched in Kiev with NATO and the EU direct and massive assistance deny any type of truce and subsequently any comprehensive political settlement of the armed conflict it has initiated in April 2014.
By continuing their tremendous military, financial, political and moral support to Ukraine, members of these two alliances de facto incite and prolong the most acute armed confrontation initiated by them and Ukraine in Europe after the end of the WW II.
