UN welcomes any efforts toward talks between Russia, Ukraine

The United Nations supports any efforts to organize talks between Russia and Ukraine, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary General Farhan Haq told TASS.

"We encourage all efforts towards negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation," he said, commenting on the visits by the US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kiev.

Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said earlier that Witkoff and Kushner had promised to voice assessments expressed by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding possible ways of the conflict settlement during their talks in Kiev.

A new round of trilateral talks on the Ukrainian settlement involving Moscow, Washington, and Kiev may be announced in the near future, US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff said.

"You heard President Zelensky talk about a trilateral that we're hopeful will be announced in short order," he told a news conference in Kiev.

According to Witkoff, the US delegation is "dug in on finding the solution" and there are all "the ingredients" to find it.

The US administration is working on a "peace package" to settle the conflict in Ukraine, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner said.

"What President Trump has tasked [special envoy] Steve [Witkoff] and myself with doing is really creating a peace package," he told a news conference. "There's a lot of people in the US government under the president, the vice president, Secretary [of State Marco] Rubio, and many more, working on trying to construct this".
