Russia is Europe’s number one in terms of gross domestic product, Russian President Vladimir Putin said when speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

"Russia is already ranking fourth in the world in terms of gross domestic product. And is Europe’s first. <…> These are very significant indices," he told the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

Russian President Vladimir Putin named five steps to change the structure of the national economy TASS has collected the main points.

First area

- Conditions should be supported to increase the economic activity of citizens, so that the youth and the senior people are able to realize their potential in the labor market and develop their careers.

- The government has prepared a package of changes incentivizing the business to create modern and attractive jobs.

Second area

- The new quality of the investment climate is the goal, specifically the dramatic minimization of business costs in all spheres, from construction to accounting and notarial support.

- Fixed capital investments in Russia should grow by at least 60% as compared to 2020.

Third area

- The Russian economy should be more technologically advanced. This is the objective requirement of the present and the future, the challenge that should be responded if there is the desire to be stronger.

- Competitiveness should be based on domestic technological solutions and business investments in science and developments should grow at least twofold by 2030.

Fourth area

- The new quality of foreign trade, exports and imports. Large-scale projects in energy, mining and processing sectors will be implemented soon in CIS countries, based on Russian technological solutions.

Fifth area

- Development in the defense sector sphere. Technological innovation should be constantly analyzed and implemented in the defense sector, and its interfacing with the nondefense sector should be achieved in a number of cases.

Vladimir Putin has dismissed those who describe Russia as an "unreliable ally," labeling them provocateurs whose efforts are destined to fail.

"Those who spread narratives about Russia’s unreliability as an ally are provocateurs, stirring tensions that serve no constructive purpose. They will not succeed in their aims," he declared during the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), responding to recent Western media reports.

"Firstly, each conflict is only superficially similar to others," Putin explained. He referenced the words of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who, in his book – also published in Russian – stated that "each country bears its own responsibility for what transpires within its borders."

Regarding Russia’s reliability as an ally, Putin reiterated the importance of solidarity, stating, "That is true. But in every case, a conflict remains unique, with its own particularities."

Vladimir Putin has likened the emergence of a new world order to a rising sun – an unstoppable phenomenon unfolding naturally.

"A new world order is emerging organically, like the rising sun. There’s no way to halt it," he declared at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). "Our role is to formalize this process and facilitate it, ensuring it develops in a more balanced way that aligns with the interests of the vast majority of nations."

Putin expressed his sincere hope that "all nations will come to recognize that this approach to resolving issues is far superior to reliance on pressure and the fundamentally neocolonial world order that humanity has endured for centuries, if not millennia."

Russia and China intend to conduct military exercises this year as part of their bilateral cooperation plan concerning a range of strategic issues, Vladimir Putin said.

"Not least, we are developing military-technical and military cooperation," the Russian leader stated in the context of Moscow-Beijing relations. "This is, beyond a shadow of doubt, extremely important for ensuring stability in global affairs."

"We have an entire cooperation plan on this front," Putin noted. "The Defense Ministry also has its own engagement plans. We regularly hold joint drills and will continue doing so this year as well. We will also work together in the military-technical sphere. We are aware of our Chinese friends’ preferences, and it’s not just about buying and selling tech. We are ready for this and will work on all these fronts."

Vladimir Putin said that he did not rule out taking control over Ukraine’s Sumy, but noted that there was no such a task at the moment.

"We do not have such a task - to take control over Sumy. But, in principle, I do not rule this out," Putin said at a plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

The president said that Russia's actions are caused, among other things, by the constant shelling of the country's border territories by the Ukrainian forces. "Why? Why are we doing this? Because they pose a threat to us. They are constantly shelling the border territories. <...> This is the result of their, in principle, absolutely, I think, illiterate, simply unjustified actions," Putin said.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) is taking place on June 18-21. This year, the event is being held under the theme "Shared Values: The Foundation of Growth in a Multipolar World." The Roscongress Foundation is the event’s organizer. TASS is its information partner.
