Vucic stated the risk of stopping navigation on the Danube

Serbia may face restrictions on navigation on the Danube due to a decrease in the water level in the river. This was announced on August 2 by the country's President Alexander Vucic.

"We will do our best, and I hope that we won't have to shut down the refinery. — Ed.). If we have to stop [the refinery's operation], in two or three days the Danube will become non-navigable," the Danas newspaper quoted him as saying.

Vucic stated that the current situation poses risks to the operation of the energy sector, including the Pancevo Oil Refinery. The Serbian leader clarified that currently navigation on the Danube remains, but the volume of traffic needs to be reduced by about half.

At the same time, the Serbian president noted that citizens should not worry about possible consequences yet. He stressed that the authorities will inform the population in case of a change in the situation.

The Reuters news agency reported that in eastern Serbia, the rusty hulls of the German flotilla, flooded by the Nazis in 1944, appeared from the waters of the Danube. In addition, in Croatia, shoaling exposed a cargo ship that sank in 1937.
