Wales, Scotland and Ireland have signed a memorandum on the right to secede from Britain

The leaders of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland signed a joint memorandum on the right to self-determination and independence from the United Kingdom, as well as on future cooperation with the European Union (EU). The document was published on September 14 by the Scottish National Party (SNP) on the social network.

"We share the belief that the nations and communities we represent deserve greater ambitions, greater economic opportunities, and a stronger voice in determining their future," the document says.

The memorandum was signed by First Minister of Scotland John Swinney, Head of Wales Rhun ap Iorwerth and First Minister of Northern Ireland Michelle O'Neill. The authors of the document stated that for the first time, the leaders of the three regions jointly reaffirmed their commitment to the right to independence from the United Kingdom.

"Scotland voted decisively to remain in the EU, but we were taken out of it against our will," said John Swinney, leader of the Scottish National Party.

According to politicians, the agreement should be a signal of the approach of constitutional changes in the country. The parties intend to strengthen cooperation between their political forces and identify areas in which joint work can bring practical results.

One of these areas will be the development of relations with Europe. The authors of the memorandum believe that Brexit has damaged the economies of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales and limited their opportunities. They associate the future of their regions with the European Union.

In addition, the leaders advocated preserving the right of the population to determine their own future, developing a fairer economy and using their own renewable energy resources in the interests of residents and businesses.

The parties also called on the British government to prepare for and facilitate possible constitutional changes. In their opinion, relations between the regions in the future should be based on the principles of equality, respect and mutual benefit.
