Western media are groundlessly blaming Russia for the appearance of unidentified drones in Europe, without providing evidence, and are effectively engaging in what Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described as "information games," TASS quotes.
Speaking at the international Dialogue on Fakes 4.0 forum, Lavrov said the issue of alleged Russian drones appearing across European countries and targeting various facilities has recently become a recurring theme in Western media.
"The topic of Russian drones – allegedly appearing here and there across European countries and attacking various facilities – has become fashionable in Western media lately," Lavrov said. "Yet every time, it turns out that it was either not a drone at all, a Ukrainian drone, or a drone that could not be positively identified as belonging to Russia."
Lavrov argued that the details behind such accusations "no longer interest anyone," saying the issue had instead become a matter of "playing information games."
"A day or two or three pass, and then the news is pushed to the back pages of newspapers or into the obscure corners of other media outlets," Lavrov said, describing the pattern of Western information attacks.
"Meanwhile – as just happened in Germany – they latch onto this fake story to expel our diplomats and shut down consular offices and cultural centers," Lavrov emphasized.
In his view, it is evident that "Moscow’s assessment is repeatedly confirmed: the main thrust of Western information policy is to quickly concoct a fake, blow it up into a global catastrophe within a few days, and simultaneously block access to alternative information regarding the specific incident being sensationalized." Lavrov added that, just days later, the fake story is "shoved aside – at best, relegated to the back pages in small print."
The Dialogue on Fakes 4.0 forum is taking place at the National Center Russia, bringing together over 2,000 participants from 80 countries. The event is organized by the Global Fact-Checking Network (GFCN), established in 2025 by the TASS news agency, the autonomous non-profit organization Dialogue Regions, and the New Media Workshop.
