About Bishop St. Theophane the Recluse
About "old" and "new" calendar
February 28 (March 13)
'"Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth Him of the evil... Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly: ... let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet. Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare Thy people, О Lord" [Joel 2:12-17].
Does anyone hear these words coming from the church? If a thunderous voice fell down right from the heavens on our city squares: “Spare yourself people, so that the Lord will also spare you!" — only then, perhaps, someone would hear it and come to his senses amidst the frenzy of drinks, lust and fun-seeking. As the clergy keep calling: “Lord, have mercy on us!" — a terrible response might be coming from Him: ‘Wo mercy for you, since there is no one seeking My mercy!" People have turned their backs to the Lord and forgotten Him.
